Reminders of Home

On a trip into Mpumalanga Townships last week, I captured a few shots that reminded me of how I grew up. Let me share the memories.

African Sunrise

Barefoot kids and a soccer ball, hahaha, it has me thinking - we'd get up very early on holidays and head out to play soccer all day (with paper-and-plastic balls mind you)! We wouldn't even take a bath until seven o' clock at night! Now I understand why my mother yelled the way she did.

Check out the other favourite pastime underneath - this is the Dream Car!

I'm sure many of you recognise the next one too! I call it Irekeni; some know it as a Ketti; but it's really just a sling. That weapon was a young hunter's jewel! Birds had no chance. Ya ne, we were naughty!

Then, every photographer's dream - faces, kids' faces! See these kids below - can you interpret their emotions?

I love this one - this smile lights up a room. She's aptly named 'Kindness'.

The two below also have stories to tell - don't you think?

And of course, coming back to childhood memories of Mama - welcome to her kitchen:

Shoo! Now I really miss home...
